Team Celiac Runners

Mike Petersen
I’m participating in the TCS New York City Marathon as a member of Team Celiac to raise as much money as I can to help fund the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University's ongoing research program!

I don't have Celiac Disease, but I have seen its impact on peoples' lives, and how being even gluten intolerant can negatively impact a person's life. Cutting of gluten from my family's diet has meant that we've just felt and performed better, have fewer aches and pains, and recover faster. If this is true of us, imagine how much of an impact that improved understanding, mitigating, managing, or even curing this disease can have for some who have to contend with Celiac Disease every day. These people face a cascade of problems stemming from this disease, including possible anemia, early onset osteoporosis, and neurological problems.  As we learn more about Celiac Disease, it becomes clearer and clearer how important it is to continue funding research to help people who are afflicted with it, and I'm proud to run for Team Celiac!
